From Carson & Barnes Circus

An 8,300 pound elephant and her newborn, who was 280 pound at birth, are doing well at a Breeding Compound and Retirement Center for elephants in Hugo, Oklahoma."Val" was born to "Wimpy" after nearly 12 hours of labor on April 27 at the Endangered Ark Foundation. This is the 3rd birth at the Center which was founded by D.R. Miller whose family started the first Hugo-based circus.
The father is "Tommy" who also lives at the compound.

How many other breeding programs are there besides the Ringling and Carson & Barnes breeding program?

Aside from Gary and Kari Johnson's "Have Trunk will Travel" in California and the Zoos, I don't believe there are any other breeding programs in the circus end of animal husbandry in the United States NOW. Roman Schmitt had great success during his career with breeding. Many of his offspring grace the Ringling herd now. Bucky Steele had a couple calves born over the years and his Male, Buke, sired the first two babies born at Carson & Barnes. This mother, Whimpy, was owned by Bucky Steele for many years. This is her third calf that I know of. In all fairness to Mr. Cuneo, his male Nicholas was born at his facility to performing parents. If you step outside of the US borders, our Canadian neighbors at African Lion Safari have done very well in the breeding program with Asian elephants under the direction of Mr. Charlie Gray. I sincerely hope I didn't leave anyone out.

I knew I would skip someone. Rex Williams had a Male named Gardner and a Female named Gyp that brought forth a youngster named Myaaka. Several photos have been shown on Buckles Blog of the youngster with the nickname of Brat.

Certainly no disrespect intended by not including Scott and Heidi Riddle's excellent work but the baby born was Asian as were all programs I mentioned earlier. The Riddle Sanctuary has been blessed with the arrival of Africans. I guess we never really established what breeding programs we were talking about. My apologies to anyone left out.
