Every time i ever saw elvin with his wheel of death, he stopped the show. memories of his skill and showmanship come back every time i see another wheel act, and it's always the same rection -- once you saw elvin any other wheel act is anti-climatic. as far as i'm concerned, his will always be the greatest daredevil in circus history, with his trapeze, wheel, aerial motorcycycle, cannon and even his mechanical monster acts.
other people had done wheel acts- bill strong wrote a history of the wheel for either cfa website or cfa youth website- elvin just did it better than anyone else, before or after. elvin was a one-of-a-kind superstar star -- no matter what he did,he performed with such style and personal charisma you couldn't help watching. i never saw him do the wheel act without stopping the show-completely, with no sound except applause and cheers. very few other performers have ever done that.

Was he the first to do the wheel? If he was he sure should have patented it!
