You have provided us with a glimpse of circus history never to be seen again... unless something changes dramatically. The ways and means are still there, the name is the same although a bit damaged at this point. The largest living herd of elephants in existance is still available although many are retired due to age, breeding, and disease. It is completely possible for this to be done again. Will it? I think we all know the answer. Bob
For me ; That was some " ERA " - never to be forgotten for thoes who lived in it I'm sure ! All it's Sparkle , Pizzazz , etc.. When the AIR is " GOOD " it SHOWS -
The Tide will Turn Again - that's Nature - When ? ? ? ; is the Question !
Not that it really matters to anyone but this was one of my favorite RBBB/Don Foote/Bill Pruyn/Barstow specs. It's almost unfair to call it anything but "SPECTACLE", out of respect for spec's unshortened title.
Mr. Carden doesn't even belong in the same room as the legendary creative team during the last golden years of the Greatest Show on Earth. Besides inventing the 45 minute intermission Mr. Carden's creative contribution to the circus are most limited. But to be fair his elephants ARE IMMACULATE 24/7.
There were so many people that were responsible for making that era so special. And much of that was handed down tradition...which is probably now lost with all the breaks from the past.
Did anyone back then think that 30 years down the road we would looking back and wishing it could be as good as it was then?
i never even suspected this show would ever come to be what is now so sad to know those days are long gone the only comfort is i got to live them before they ended CleanRaul
Not a fan of long intermissions: mr. Carden is the responsible for the circus the majority of circus goers see in this day. The ones who only see the shrine circus. What Mr. Carden does you can be sure within 5 years Jim Hamid, Jody Jordan, Struppi Hanneford, Cindy Migley, and others will be too. I agree all 7 of his elephants are gorgous. next to Ringling, probably the best in the industry. But you give me the name of some one who puts on a show closer in scale to Ringling of the past, and i will gladly accept your comment as is.
Buckles, I love these photos. Brings me back to the best time of Ringling and my youth. I sure miss those days. And to think, I still keep in touch with a little girl I used to babysit. She is married and has a kid, but all the same I will never forget those days. And this underwater Spec, was the best, and always will be. Thanks for the show. Lesley

Unfortunately, Buckles, you're probably correct. Back to the basics!
