Barnum & Bailey floats and tableaux #1

This looks like the Banum & Bailey Winter Quarters in Bridgeport, Conn.
My father's favorite tableau dated back to Barnum, Bailey & Hutchinson in the 1880's and still exists in Baraboo.
Every time I passed it I thought of him.

This view was one of a series taken at Chester, England in 1898. The tableau cage in the foreground no longer exists. A replica of the one poking out to the right is at Baraboo. Disney pretty much destroyed the original. The one bearing the "Barnum, Bailey & Hutchinson" cartouche may have been the one favored by your father. Thayer wrote an extensive history of these vehicles in bandwagon a while back.

The history commentary above bears the unmistakable touch and depth of knowledge that only Fred Dahlinger can provide.
