Buckles,I have some old photos of my Grandfather that I would like to share with you. Sorry for posting here but I couldn't find another way to contact you. He was a handler/trainer with John Robinson and possibly Sells-Floto. I'm guessing late 20's, early 30's. One pic is dated 1931. His name is Sam LaFleur. He passed away in 1985 so I was just in my teens then. I wish I had asked more questions when he was alive but I do remember his love for elephants. He always talked about his favorite, Tillie, who is buried here in Cincinnati (Terrace Park). Or that is the rumor i think. Thanks Lori
(This might be the 1931 picture you mention. My father at left, your grandfather at right and George "Red Cap" Thompson in the center, with the John Robinson Militaty Elephants "Tillie", "Tony" "Pitt (Petite) and "Clara'.) Buckles

Buckles, It is just great the way you conect people with their past. Sharing your pictures and tidbits of info that these people would never have know without you. You never cease to amaze me with your generious additude and the way you express yourself. Thank you.
Buckles, these elephants just look bigger/stocker/more muscular than any contemporary animals; even their trunks are more massive. Was it a breed or that they were worked and walked more? cc
Buckles,I have also noticed a lot of difference in elephant confirmation in photos from the 1940s to the ones from the1980s & '90s
Wouldn't this be because most of those elephants ('40s) came from India and most of present day elephants come from Thailand ?
when was the big shift and why ?
Hi, my American cousins ran St Leon Bros European Circus during 1931 through north east of US and lower Canada. It was a single ring circus and moved on trucks. The show was a good one but did not last long, I guess because of the Depression. Mark St Leon, Sydney, Australia.
