I may be wrong, but this looks like General Vargas, the day his chair(throne) broke. Dale Longmiere might be able to answer this. Wade Burck

When the Shipp & Feltus Circus came to the Argentina in 1917 this picture was in the advertising and said " White statues: the sublime creation of the famous horse Napoleon presented by the spiritual ecuyere Miss Virginia Shipp”
Can someone said me if this woman is really Virginia, the daughter of Edward Shipp and Julia Lowande?

Interesting ; I mistakenly assumed ALL Statuary Poses were People Painted Gold or Silver in various Sculptural Poses ( without movement ) for say 30 to 60 seconds each ; than posibly droping the Shroud , changing possion , lifting the Shroud & repeating this a few times .

Where is Herriott [proper spelling of my name] I assume you are addressing me. I am right here and recently you suggested that you were confused on some subjects including me. I believe you are also confused in regard to the Rex Williams photo. I just happened to be with Clyde Bros. circus the seaso9n it all happened.Ed Sullivan, etc. in 1960. I have film on video taken in Rockford Ill. and also Beaument, Tex. The bycycle act were the Esquedas, Your uncle and cousins the Johnny Laddie family did the ladder shaking, Dave Hoover had his lion act there, A young German boy named Roland Raffler had a nice Pig act and bird act in the show, Rex caught the flying act along with Wally Naughtin and Joeann Day as flyers, Cucciola worked six ponies as did Mary Ruth another six. I presented the six Clyde Bros. liberty horses as well as the camel llama zebra act that Rex was tickled to death to turn over to me when I joined the show. The Dubsky family was there and Netti and Harry Married the next season [1961]. However Rex and Netta did go to the Ed Sullivan show during the season I just mentioned [1960], so naturally Suesz had that photo published prior to their apprarance there. I joined in Sue Saint Marie and closed in Galvastan one week before the season ended in Dodge City, Kansas. Rex and I had some great times together you can be sure and incidentally During that time Rex trained the Patty Cake whereby two elephants stood on their hind legs facing each other with their front pads against one another. Another Rex Williams innovation and we talked it out and then I assisted Rex in training. He would not have a groom or "shit shoveler". We became great pals until he passed on. Just wanted to clear up any confusion and set the record straight for posterity. It has been bothering me. Thanks Jimmy Hall. From John Herriott.

To Jimmy; Not being an elephant person you seem to take lightely the idea of being trunked up, but I can assure you that any elephant trainer of the American variety would consider that very important in regard to being atraight in body, or I suppose prop posture. I think Buckles expresses best in that we should " dot all the Is and cross all the Ts ". A preliminary vacal command given begore executing any maneuver starts with the word "trunk".

In 1948 on Ringling Charly Markofski as part of his liberty act had a beautiful white stallion enter the ring, no harnes and it galloped around and came to him in the middle. It immediately lay down and Charly rolled it up into that position, at which time he affixed a boot aroun the upright hin hoof of one of its back legs that had a candle attached to it. He lit the candle, stood back and with one crack of his whip snuffed out the candle. He took off the boot the horse jumped up galloped around and then came to him and executed a beautiful rear, all in a matter of a minute or so. Pretty good stuff, but then it was part of THE GSOE> I saw it.

Old lord,( Whers Harr---iott )
The Photo says during 60 (or) 61. I sure do not want to rob you of your moments of glory, however I was on the season of 61. Also was on Howard Suez's show aka "School House Harry" before he got big, around the period of 55 thru 61. Now my family and myself included were there three season during this time span.I was billed as the Wonder Boy from Denmark. My debue doing the cups and saucers on a high stool, not in our unicycle act, was around 55, not during the time which you refered to so rudely , however you and my father have a lot in common. During this time period he refered to me as the blunder boy rather than the Wonder Boy from Denmark .If you like I could bore you with the run. Never the less Rex williams was there in 61 and so was I, it is a historical fact. I mean as you would put a historical fact.I do appreciate any one that recalls this time period. It sure jogs one's memory.

Dear Mr. Hall. I am not remotely interested in when you were with Howard Suesz or any other show. However you were not on the Suesz show when Rex left briefly to do the Ed Sullivan show. I was there and the photo you referred to as being taken when you were there is not so. End of that story. As to your elephant credentials, I do not know who the Chris you are referring to is and in the words of Smokey Jones, "just show us the pictures". I am sure you must be aware that I have apretty good knowledge of those in the field for quite a few years.
