I always sat in the seats while the horses were in the ring to watch and catch the public reaction. Not one person ever knew just what they were seeing, it got the least amount of attention. Although it was very hard to train it was not worth the affert regarding the general public. I always thought it was to impress other horse trainers. Even when the ringmaster explained to the public what they were about to see it did not impress them as the anouncement was longer then the feat. I love to watch horses with out reins/feathers/etc. work in the ring. Just beautyfull horse flesh.
When I see Billy Baker I am always reminded of the two years Trudy worked with him in a display on Vargas, he was a gentleman & treated her with respect,in & out of the ring,24/7.
There are a few [very few] trainers/performers who out shine their acts in and outside the circus ring. You remember them with respect for being the human being that they are and the way they treated others.
I believe it was Mr. Baker who in 1977 or 1980 & on the Vargas Circus had a group of Leopard Spotted Apalousas(?) that were Outstanding - anyone with photos of them ? ? ?
Leapord appalousas, I believe were owned by Hoffmeister and worked on the Beatty Cole a season or two prior to being sold to the Vargas show. What an act. They were all stallions then. Hoffmeister,I found out later, was Joann Anderson's( of the white horse troop ) father.

PERFECT The way it should look. Even though my least favorite thing to see a horse do.
WOW - what a great photograph !
Why is it your least favorite thing to see a horse do, Rebecca?

Naked horses, but the presenter can never have too many beads/babbles/jewels/feathers/sequins to suit me.
