Center for Consumer Freedom has this moving billboard parked outside courthouse, though the Judge has asked them to move it when Jurors are coming and going. CCF ran a full page ad in the NY Times on Monday for the Peta Kills Animals site.

I will add the link here to that web site. They are doing a day by day account of the trial that has just begun. It's at day three and after a rundown of what the prosocuter has, these two dolts are toast. Their biggest mistake was to dump the bodies out in the boonies. This is farm country, pork and poulrty are big. In fact three people in the jury pool work in local slaugherhouses. And many others are avid hunters. The more I read, the more I think this could actually sink PeTA for good.

If the jury convicts Hinckle and Cooke PETA's spin machine will have a tough time of it. After the original arrests in 2005 Ingrid Newkirk took the position that killing adoptable animals was the "humane" thing to do, since PETA's shelters were full; and that dumping the dead animals was necessary because their cremation facility was down. The truth seems to be that PETA doesn't want you to adopt cute little kittens. PETA doesn't really approve of "pets." What the trial may succeed in doing is pointing out just how radical Newkirk really is. Will that sink them? Probably not, they have vast financial resources, but if the trial gets national attention it will cut in to their funding base and seriously damage their credibility. (Though why they continue to enjoy any kind of credibility is a mystery anyway.) Yesterday's testimony, Hinckle's statements assuring a shelter that a particular cat and her kittens would find homes -- only to have the dead animals pulled from a dumpster an hour later -- is tough to explain away even if you are Ingrid Newkirk. It all goes back again and again to PETA's notion that they have license to lie and politicians and the media and everybody else should believe those lies because the end justifies the means.

this might be ab opportune time for a petition to the IRS to withdraw their 501(C) (3) status
and for people to foward this trial info to cogressmen&women and Senators
now would be as good a time as any

I still belive that this trial can be used to blow the doors off of PETA.

I think if they can prove in this court that this scam of taking animals from other shelters under the guise of "Finding Homes" for them is a policy of Peta. I think a Federal Court should look into thier tax status, money trails the whole nine yards.

I'm not a legal beagle - but I know what FRAUD is.

Just got this over the wire. Elephant Health and Welfare Institute a part of a peta operation out of the elephant sanctuary in Tenn is now operating. Makes you wonder where they got their cordentials doesn't it?

I forwarded this post to the Tampa Tribune with the following message. "You will probably consider this an attachmant, and ignore it but the public should know the truth about PETA". I think we should start a bombardment of newspapers & politicians regarding this.For those in this area, the Tampa Tribunes email is---- tribletters@tampatrib.com----I suggest those of you in other parts of the country do the same in your area, you'll find the address on your local editorial page.

yeah, but just wait - i'm sure the spin will be along the lines of "they were acting on their own accord and we (officially) had nothing to do with it" as they have done in the past with the other domestic terrorists they've been linked to. (re: rodney coronado, craig rosenbraugh)

with all the crap they either did or were linked to in the 90's i'm amazed they still have their 501.3c.

you can bet your bippy that with dubya's "war on terror" (and as a result, the war on our personal rights &/or liberties) they are treading very carefully.

it will be interesting to see if they just stubbed their toe, or if they are going to fall face first into this mess.

Phenobarbytol is a controled drug that can only be used by Veterinarian's. This drug is used to euthanize animals. If this drug was given to these people by the Vet's at Norfolk not only should this person lose their license, but PETA should be shut down for drug trafficing in controled substances.

Sandy let's give them a little push, I have already started forwarding all of this stuff to horse breeders & horse related businesses, we need to let them know that this is not just a circus thing, PETA is out to destroy the entire animal industry, and we need all the help we can get. Gary H, I'm sure you have contact with a lot of horse people & farmers, we need to all jump on this with both feet.

The official defense is interesting, if only because it illustrates just how arrogant PETA is. Hinckle's lawyer intends to introduce documents from Norfolk which were in the death van at the time of the arrest. The documents, which maybe she and Cook failed to show to shelters, state that all animals will be euthanized. PETA is staking out a position that killing animals is just fine, it's training animals that's cruel. I gather that puppies and kittens don't have a "right" to say find me a home. Of course the defense doesn't address why it's cool to dump dead dogs and cats into dumpsters. It may very well be that the drugs were legal in VA if one of the defendants is a licensed Vet Tech, but that doesn't cover crossing state lines with them. Second day of evidence introduced the fact that PETA isn't licensed to use lethal narcotics in NC. That, I would think, may be a Federal crime involving higher ups in the organization. Apparently they often killed animals before even leaving the parking lot at the shelters, telling anyone watching that they were sedating animals for the ride back to VA, where the adorable pets would find homes. This is going to get very ugly.

Bill, alot of my clients are well aware of how dangerous these nutcases are. Rodeo's have been getting the crap from them for a few years now. Hopefully real animal people will win over the nuts!

Seems to me peta is useing the name In defence of animals now. Same outfit, just a different name. The humane society of the usda has been a rip off along side peta since the beginning. Put usda in any name and people think the outfit is legal and endorced by the government and you had better do what they say. We were all so busy making a life for ourselves all these years that we could not afford to take time off to fight these charges against us. We are retired now and have all the time [god willing] to show the world just what fools these people have taken them for. Including a lot of their money. [Millions}

Rebecca. IDA is a California based group with no real connection to PETA, if it's possible, they're even more ideologically "extreme." But they disagree with PETA on several issues, and they don't have the deep pockets that PETA. They have close ties to Pat Derby and PAWS, and they were behind the decision in SF to give up keeping elephants at the zoo. In California circus protestors are far more apt to be connected to IDA than PETA. We're all so familiar with the usual IDA crew, their point person is a legend. My 12 year old Robin has pushed her buttons to the point that she just screams at him, calling him a brat and suggesting that he's been beat a few too many times with bullhooks. I'll give credit where credit is due. IDA actually spends real money on habitat protection for primates in Africa, unlike PETA which views extinction as a natural process and thus can't be bothered with conservation. IDA was founded by a Vet and hones more to the classic anti-vivisection model of animal rights rather than then philosophical model of animal liberation behind PETA. Like so many of the old anti-vi groups they absolutely hate zoos, perhaps even more than circuses.

and also a bit about PETA's director's(Ingrid Newkirk) salary,a reported 3 million pr/yr
also an inquiry into why these people are not being prosecuted for possesion of a class 1 narcotic,and transporting it over state lines and getting written directions from PETA on how and why to use a class 1 controlled substance illegaly.It certainly sounds like organized crime over state lines and should call for an organized crime task force to investigate this use of contributions in the commission of and defense of a fedral crime.
C'mon folks let us ALL get together and push this.This is the opportunity we have all been looking for, for a long time.And it costs you nothing but your time at this infernal machine.And please don't sign on as anonymous, it is time to stand up and get this moving !
Also get on that same website and voice your support for those that are out there fighting the fight !
Anybody else got any more ideas on how to use this media goldmine ?
