my name is David Konyot and the man in the photo with otto ringling is obviously one of my ancestors , does anyone know which one of the family he is? The Konyots were with Ringlings in the early 1900's with their riding troupe , and later Arthur and Oscar were with them on and off till the fifties ,any information would be gratefully recieved.
I could be mistaken but I believe this Konyot was the director of the pageants produced on both Barnum & Bailey and the Ringling Show in those days.
No doubt, someone can elaborate on this.
He is very likely Oscar Konyot, that for a time served as equestrian/performance director, alongside Fred Bradna.
I will try to follow with some more research.
if this picture is taken in 1907 it is not oscar he would have been to young It is more likely one of the elder brothers My grandfather Sandor (Alexander) Alfons , Arthur or Max, there is only one Konyot family, the name was made up by great grandfather Leopold as his original name was Kohn but when he started in circus he thought another name was more advantageous,
I have inherited an original Ringling Brothers Route card from 1909 which were given to the artists with notes on the back from my great grandmother (Henrietta Blumenfeld)
Richard Reynolds says - -
When William Henry Otto Ringling died of a kidney disorder in early 1911, it was the biggest blow ever to the show's management. He was the real businessman and finanical brains behind it.
To David Konyot:
There is a wonderful book by Charles Philip Fox titled "A Ticket to the Circus." Published in 1959 by Superior Publishing of Seattle. This same photo appears on page 38 of the book. The picture is credited to the Wisconsin Historical Society. The caption reads: Otto Ringling (with cane) and Adolph Konyot on lot of Barnum & Bailey Circus in 1911.
Don't know if this caption helps or confuses. But thought you might like to know about it.
