Speaking of Bob Bob Stevens and Sid Stevenson being brothers, how many remember that Big Bob's name was actually Lesly Stevenson?
Among names I haven't seen on the blog are Lillian and John Long, Guy Smuck and Blind Bill Durant (Buckles you must remember him in Hot Springs?).
I remember them all well. "Lucious Lil" and John ran the pie car.
Blind Bill had a news stand right down town on Malvern Ave.
How about Red compton, Otis Hill and Ring Tail?
Otis Hill rings a bell- he drove one of the downtown hitches (maybe the Red Goose Shoe float?) but remember you're a hell of a lot older than I am. Bob Bullock? Grady Hardin? What friend of ours also called himself J Eddie Holmes (John Frazier knows this)???
Young Whitey
Amos Grady Hardin was the Mayor of Savannah, Tenn. as a young man.
I come up empty on J Eddie Holmes tho.
Years ago I met a guy who was from Walnut Ridge (now your eyes are starting to light up) and when I mentioned circuses he asked if I knew "J Eddie Holmes." Turned out it was Art Miller's name around home. I knew Art for a long time but had never heard this.
Didn't know where Grady was from but I did hear a story that once when the Russell show played his hometown, he invited a troupe of midgets to the house for a party and at some point decided to saw the legs off the chairs and the grand piano to accommodate them.
Everybody thought it was great idea but Mrs Hardin who was not particularly amused.
Some people just have no sense of humor !!!
