Logan Memorial #1

Jim Elliott drove by today and dropped these off. I counted 20 elephant men but closer inspection reveals several imposters Posted by Picasa

For those of us that may know the people but can't identify them all--can you name both the ladies and the gentlemen? Thanks.

Is that Pee Wee Pinson, at Center, with the dark cap, white mustache, and red shirt?

Yes it is.

Unfortunately directly behind me and right beside Buckles is my wonderful Son-in-law and respected member of our elephant men and women fraternity, Roy Wells.

A Benny Williams story...20 odd years ago I get a call for an elephant for Children's Day at the Capitol in New York, the event is sponsored by HBO and they want an elephant to represent "BABAR" a new program that they are showing.
I contact Buckles and Barbara and we easily come to terms; a piece of cake. Benny would bring Anna May and she would be Babar the elephant for the day.
I only met Benny in passing; I knew Buckles and Barbara better.
I give Benny a map of the city with yellow highlighted directions; I tell him it is going to be on-the-street parking and it is a little confusing finding the Capitol with a semi.
The event starts at 11AM; I tell him I'll be there at 8AM looking for him and assist with parking. On the morning of the event I arrive about 7:30AM and Benny, Anna May and the semi are already there and parked.
I apologize to Benny for not being there to met him and he tells me, "No problem, I've been here for about 45 minutes I didn't want to get lost."
I then notice that Benny is in working clothes; they're not dirty but they are just regular clothes. It dawns on me that I screwed up; I should have made arrangements for wardrobe for Benny. Now all morning long I am disappointed that this wardrobe detail escaped my scrutiny.
I met Benny back at the semi about 15 minutes prior to the event and here he is CHANGED into khakis; shirt and pants looking picture perfect.
The event went off fine and Anna May looked picture perfect, too.
What I learned: when you hire the best, the best make you look good.

I have never ever seen a Woodcock Act anything but perfection in the circus ring. No matter the weather on a Mud Show or Madison Square Garden. Buckles ORANGE wardrobe left a little to be desired, but that was not his fault.

Mac MacDonald once told me that if he worked six perfect acts a year he was satisfied.
Good to hear that mine were all perfect.
