From Jim Cole

While we are on the subject of head-in-the-lion's mouth photos, here is Patricia White performing this on Carson & Barnes about 20 years ago. She presented this trick with "Rex" for 10 years, 500 shows a year, with much press coverage. Posted by Picasa

Patricia, You make us females proud. Please don't do this again. You are the last of the really great female trainers and presenters we have. You remind me so much of ELOISE with all the different acts and animals you work with. Never afraid to do it all. Wish I had known you. I think ELOISE would agree with me.

According to Pat ,she always wore earrings and only got them hooked on teeth "a few times"
Now that's amazing ! LOL

When on Kelly Miller, Darlene told me her husband would not let her pierce her ears for ear rings. He said "What would happen if the elephant stepped on it" DUM DUM DUM I really don't think she would have had to worry about it if that happened.

Thanks, Rebecca. I never had the opportunity to meet Eloise, but I am in awe of her spectacular career.
As far as "doing it all", D.R. Miller instilled in me the value of making myself "generally useful". Gee Gee believed I could. I didn't want to disappoint either one of them.
The good fortune to work with extraordinary animals like Rex and Masai is where the true credit lies. Without the animals...
Rex passed away in Dec. of 1990, and I still miss him. A lion of absolutely flawless character. I met a tiger named Obi in 1991 who touched my heart in the same way. Blessed with two "once in a lifetime" cats in one career. Doesn't get any better than that.

The lion in this photo is identified as Rex, and described as "him". But has no mane.

Maybe he was a very happy [wink] lion Roger!!!!

Rex was a castrated male. But believe me, the absence of his mane had no effect on the sharpness of his teeth! Oh yes- actually, Bud, there IS a more precise view; but the lighting is really poor in there!

YOU HAD YOUR EYES OPEN IN THERE?????? I have all my animals neutered or spayed. It does nothing to change their personality or behavior. A mean animal [ and there are not that many naturally] are going to be mean no matter what. I do it for the health of the animal. Mentally and phyically

closing ones eyes while having ones face in close proximity with the business end if a lion would not be good business !

To Larry Allen Dean: No one has ever put it better. Thanks for making me snort beer through my nose.

Good business or not, I usually did close my eyes. There wasn't much to look at, and the edges of his mouth made a complete seal. It was pitch black inside.

Interviewer: What's it smell like in a lion's mouth?
Me: Oh, it's not too bad unless he's been eating chicken. Then it's a little 'fowl'....

That's a Jungle Larry joke.
Hey- you'll get the bill, Larry, when I take my computer in to be cleaned. Because of Roger' beer snorting through his nose, I sprayed coffee all over the keys!
p.s. I met Obi in 2001, not 1991. I find a 10 year memory lapse somewhat troubling...!

With Patricia,s coffee, Roger's beer, my rhine wine, we must have the dirtiest key boards on the blog. This is not including my BARFF{PUKE} from reading of the Ken and Nicole Unshow.
