The projectile in this photo is a young lady named Vessie Gencheva from Bulgaria who had been a gymnast in the 1996 Olympics. She had just come from the defunct Ringling "Kalidascope" circus, and was being trained by Brian Miser for the L.E. Barnes Circus.
This is in my backyard in St. Cloud, Florida, and for a while, the neighbors were quite concerned when they saw her flying over the tree line. The old man across the street, who had never even seen a circus, suddenly became an expert and would offer his critique of her flight patteren. "She was a mite to the left" he would say. One time the Sheriff came by during a practice session in which the "bang & smoke" was used, and asked me if I had a permit from the County to shoot a man out of a cannon in my yard. I told him that I checked, and there was no permit reqiured to shoot either man or woman from a cannon in Osceola County. Fortunatly, the Sheriff did not notice the 3 RV trailers that were not-so-legally parked in my yard!
Jimmy,
Do you have photos of the LE Barnes cannon act?
