DEAR FRIEND BUCKLES, AND FELLOW CIRCUS SUNSHINE BOY. PLEASE EXCUSE MY POOR SPELLING PUNCTUATION AND GRAMMER IN MY COMMENTS. I GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL IN 1948 WITH A 70 GRADE AVERAGE AND AM LUCKY TO TURN THIS DAMNED THING ON. KUDOS TO PAUL INGRASSIA FOR HIS EXCELLENT USE OF THE PROPER ENGLISH LANGUAGE. HE MUST HAVE EVEN GONE TO COLLEGE TO LEARN HOW TO SELL CUTTY SARK OR MAYBE LEARN HOW TO DRINK IT. WE CAN'T ALL BE RHODES SCHOLERS.
what is the rigging on the back of the back legs of the water sliding elephants ?
and what elephants were they ?
trained and/or worked by who,or is that whom ?
Luna Park had quite a few elephants in the early 1900's, elephant ride, etc.
Maybe they even imported elephants since I see in my notes where several circuses bought punks from them.
I'll have to look at that clip a little closer, I never noticed any rigging.
Smokey Jones told me a story about taking "Charlie" down to Circo Union from the Dailey Show in 1951.
He said they were showing in the Yucatan and nearby the lot was a scenic moss-covered, winding waterfall that gradually descended into a large pool where the locals did their laundry by hand.
Smokey decided to walk "Charlie" up a path to the top where he had him assume a sitting position, gave him a shove and away he went. Smokey then ran down the path and called him out of the pool.
He said that it wasn't long before he was riding up the path and "Charlie" would automatically drop back on his butt and they both had their own "Adventure Island Ride".
He added that there was an extra bonus since a good number of the ladies performed their laundry chores, nude from the waist up.
John, We are all going to get a chance of more education. CFA is printing applications for members in spanish. Think I will pass on that one. Most of the members are Americans with a history of working and living with performers from all over the world. Never had a language problem before this. Why has spanish become so special? Most performers come from Europe.
