Carson & Barnes Circus 2006 #1

Pictures and narration from KLSDAD.

"Well, the 3-ring circus under the Big Top is alive and very well, in the form of the Carson-Barnes Show.
I traveled from New York City down to Hazlet, New Jersey to see it today (Sunday Sept.10) and spent a thrilling day!! Caught the 1:30 performance. They had another at 4:30, then on to the next town.
Arrived early and spent some time talking with Randy Peterson who is presenting the elephants. When I arrived he was hosing down his beautiful girls, "Sue", "Kelly", Isa" and "Isla", (he only used three in the display today).
I mentioned that I read your Blog daily and that you keep a log on elephants and he said to tell you "hello". I also met Ben Trumble and told him that I certainly enjoy his Blog as well.
They had almost a full-house, under a breeze-cooled tent! There was about a 25 minute delay to get in as the inspecors were taking their time. I believe they were from the fire department.
(It was great to smell the grass during the performance, as they were on a nice grassy lot.)

I may have mis-spelled..
"Isla"... should be Ila.

(I wanted to give her
proper billing!!)

It's an easy mistake to make. She was named after Barbara Jane's mother, Isla Miller. An unusual name.

That canape top must be a whole lot cooler then the old tents. I use this type of shade cloth over my outside play areas for my pets. It was very hot under the old type tarps. It was 100 degree for quite a few days here in Illinois. These shade cloths made a world of difference. I never did spell Isla right. But then again I spell my own name wrong half the time. Isla was quite the woman. A very dry sense of humor.

Circusnews.com has a L.E.Barnes and Bailey Circus out of Nevada on the road now with the Carson and Barnes cage act, the two camels from the Cole Bros. Circus and some others. It sounds like a Gopher D. show by the title. No telling!

Well of course Mr Davenport isn't on the lot nor associated with the show -- which I believe is in South Dakota right now. Former C & B cats, Cole camels, Cole elephants now and then (or should we say Davenport elephants sometimes on Cole?), Garden liberty act and a different title in every town.

There are several attornies general in several states that would be interested in knowing that fetid show's route.

Like many CEO's that are being tossed into prision for ripping off the American public, mostly through stock fraud, the principals associated with this repugnant operation deserve the same.

I am outraged that they have consistently tarnished the reputation of "the circus" in so many locales. Let's be honest, most of the public cannot remember the "name" in front of circus, they just know it is "the circus".
The LOUSY show, the overpricing and the blatant, intentional misleading free ticket promotions have everlasting ramifications.

Sure, they may pack them in TODAY, but they have F****D it up forever.

Five parties are affected: the honest show owner who wants to book the town in the future, the circus staff/employees who will be thrown out of work because of diminishing work, the local sponsor who wants to raise a few bucks to enhance community activities, the families in the community who'd like to see a good show AND me.

I love the circus and I will "drop a dime" and contact the attorney general's office when I know where the show is playing.

Dan,
Queenie is owned by Bill Swain out of Texas. He has been working for Gopher for a while now.

Mr. Mcdermott,

My name is Casey Cainan.
I am the animal supt. here at LE Barnes & Bailey. I am sorry you feel the way you do about this show. I also feel you have been misinformed as to the quality of the show here. We currently present a mixed lion and tiger act, liberty horses, and elephant. Plus a wheel and motorcycle globe and no lesss then 4 three ring displays. I am also proud of the fact there is only one pitch the whole show. 2 hours of live entertainment for 20 bucks, if thats price gouging, then i am afraid the circus is on its way out. With diesel over 3.00 a gallon and all other shows down sizing, we have been putting together one of the last mudshows worth going to see.I feel a great thanks is owed to this show and any of the other of the handful of mudshows left that are still trying to make a dime like this. But, hey, I guess you thought we were all really doing it just for the smiles on the kids faces.
