Betram W. Mills' Circus 1927-28 Program #3

"Charlie, the Musical Sea Lion and his trainer Captain Huling"

Mark A. Huling, the famous Sea Lion trainer, comes of good old circus stock. His father and grandfather were in the animal and show business and he can trace descent, in a direct line, from a famous seventeenth century "magician".
His father was William Philadelphia, the well known elephant trainer, who appeared at the London Hippodrome over twenty years ago with a big elephant act.
Philadelphia was elephant and beast trainer for more than 35 years with Carl Hagenbeck's Zoo in Hamburg and trained over 60 elephants. He met his tragic death while he was with Sarasani's 15 elephants in Berlin, in 1921, when the huge Rosa threw him under the feet of the other elephants and he received fatal injuries before he could be rescued.
Mr. Huling is an American citizen. He received his training partly in Carl Hagenbeck's Zoo, working with his father, and partly with his cousin, Carl Krone (owner of the biggest animal circus in Europe) in Munich.

Hi. I'm interested in the Bertram 1927 season and this sea lion act. Does anyone know if this was the bio listed in the program?

Added to say: found a recording of the sea lion act doing an actual performance during the 1927 Bertram Mills run at Olympia. It's on YouTube, just search Bertram, circus, 1927. Pretty crazy stuff! ....still very much interested in knowing where the Mark Huling bio info came from in the original post. Buckles? Would love to know. Thx.
