To Gary Hill

Parley Baer, "Stella", Barbara and Sam Ward with Polack Bros. Circus 1966.
Parley was the Mayor of Mayberry but I always thought his best role was in "The Young Lions" in which he and Marlon Brando played German Officers occupying Paris.

If Stella's "foot" was a little higher, she could scratch behind her ear; also Sam looks trunked up.

Thanks Buckles! I've been trying to watch the Andy Griffth Show on satelite but haven't seen one with the "Mayor" yet.

I remember one where Andy and the gang has assembled a town band to enter in a competition.
The band was so bad Barney came up with some Hippie Musicians which he smuggled in and disguised in band uniforms.
A comedy of errors ensues while trying to conceal them from the Mayor (Parley).

Howard McNair (Floyd the barber) and Parley were close friends dating back to "Gunsmoke" on Radio. McNair played "Doc" and Parley was "Chester". Sheriff Matt Dillon was played by William Conrad whom some of you might remember as the Detective on "Cannon".

When they were shooting the same day on Andy Griffith, Parley would pick up Mr. McNair on the way to the studio.

Cannon was a fine show. Others may remember Conrad in Jake and the Fatman.
