Sarasota Quarters 1930

This is one of the earliest pictures I have of the Sarasota Quarters and would be the third winter after moving from Bridgeport.
Things look quite stark. This area is pretty close to where the elephant barn will eventually be built but at this stage of the game they were probably kept in a menagerie tent at night.
During a cold spell, they could easily be loaded back in the elephant cars for warmth.

On a somewhat related matter, I read in the Tampa Tribune yesterday where a Judge has ordered actor/animal activist, Alec Baldwin to receive Psychiatric attention.
"Hooray for Hollywood".

Did you know that Bridgette Bardo once advocated catching all the Pidgeons in France to neuter them. "They're coming to take us away, hoho!!!!"

I remember a stand-up comic once saying that when he first started working regularly in Hollywood, he thought that career might be enhanced if he became Spokesperson for a Medical Cure but all that was left was "flat feet" and "corns".

upon re-examination it appears they are all chained by front foot only
was that common

That's the way I always did it but with the elephants spead out more and on a much longer chain.
When at home I moved the picket line around each day since they enjoyed eating and clearing out the jungle.
I was then able to wash and scrub out the barn while it was empty.
I had the obligatory exercise pen but rarely used it since all they did was hang around the gate waiting to be taken out.

Now Bill, Anyone who would hang by his toes 60 in the air should consider being taken away. HO HO

Speaking of the Picket Line; I will always remember the morning at Circus World when Captain’s “words of wisdom” to us was about how impressed he was at Disney’s movie “Dumbo.”
