The size and beauty of these animals amazes me. You just don't see this today. It looks like these animals were groomed. The last cage act I saw was a bunch of pityfull mangy animals. A shame to present in front of an audiance.

Born in 1903, Mr. Beatty was 27, maybe 28 in this shot. The lion has been identified as Nero, the one who attacked him the next January, in Peru, and generated the flood of "jungle fever" stories that led to the book and film in 1933, both titled THE BIG CAGE.

The 1954 movie
RING OF FEAR
starring Clyde Beatty and
Mickey Spillane has been released on DVD this
month.
The two combine forces to settle a mystery under the big top.

Clyde Beatty was asked what the most intelligent trained animal was,and he said the bear, who could do many tricks, but the public would not appreciate the danger involved because the bears made it look so easy.
