Downie Bros. Circus/ Animal pictures

Most of these pictures are stock shots but I believe the man with the leopard is Frank Phillips and the elephant is "Teddy" pictured with Frank "Whitie" Creamer.
A note to Darryl: When Downie framed this show in 1926 he assembled three elephants "Babe", "Teddy" and "Tena" this is the same Teddy as in your picture taken with Bob Good and Tena the same elephants Rebecca remembers from Kelly-Miller.

Tena was the only elephant I was ever afraid of. She sent chills down my spine. I saw her take after Gene. Talk about mood swings!!! Tena and John Carrol used to have some very funny conversations. OKIE got mad at me because I said something againest her. I worked Winter Shrine dates with her before I knew her reputation. Words do hurt.

About words hurting. If I had not heard the bad stories about "TENA" I probably would not have been afraid of her. Until I saw her chase Gene through our truck. Barbara Miller and others just loved her. There is a picture somewhere of Barbara in a swing carried in the mouthh of "TENA". Or I may have the wrong elephant, Maybe it was "BARBARA" the elephant. John Carrol is leading which ever one it was. One of the few pictures of John.

About words hurting(per Rebecca) Yes, words hurt people, too. Yu should practice what you preach!

I had you pegged right off the bat Gloria. Your a fine preacher so I will leave that up to you. Don't really know where you fit into the circus world. You completely missed what I was writing about. I have always said I would do almost any thing you ask. Just never try to tell me what to do. Thanks

I missed knowing Frank Phillips, to my regret, but got to know a lot of him through Dick McGraw, who learned from him for several years.

Bill Johnston wrote a fine article about Phillips in Bandwagon, I think it was.

Siva Phillips, Frank's widow, worked at Jungleland during my time there, and was Mabel Stark's meticulous housekeeper. She was a dear lady who loved to watch us young guys coming up around the Old Place.

Roger. I also love to watch young men coming of age. Have no idea why. You are all so cute. In reality, I would like to watch mature men 65 - 80 they really do not change that much. They behave them selves and have finally given up on what a female wants. They just enjoy the company.
