Michael once told me that when they first started Big Apple they had no animals but a reviewer wrote that Binder and Christensen had an amazing juggling act using balls, clubs and even a chicken.
Soon after, the SPCA arrived saying they had received several complaints regarding animal abuse and demanded to see the chicken.
Michael brought in a box with all his juggling equipment and began rummaging around saying "I don't understand it, I saw her here just this morning!" at which point the Officers became concerned and finally he said "Aha! here she is!" and came up with the rubber chicken Paul is juggling in the picure.

On the subject of trivia, the first animals hired was a Dog and Pony act.
Does anyone remember who?

I remember Ethel Jennier being with Big Apple many, many years ago.

Mr. Lee wins two tickets to Clyde Beatty Circus in Madison Sq. Garden next Spring. Hal Haviland it was.

Hal Haviland was alive then? He was old when I was a kid, and the dogs were older.

Never underestiamate us old cogers. We will do til we die. Old dogs, new tricks will live forever. Gee I am glad I chose wine instead of pain pills tonight. Makes me smarter. I will find out what I stepped in tomorrow.

Billy Billets - Was Ethel Jennier still working her single trap act when she was on Big Apple? I saw her work that trap act and she had the most energy and charisma and was a master at styling. She was the first aerialist I ever saw do a standing free fall into an ankle drop - It was breathtaking and she rolled up the web to reach the trap bar. When have you seen anyone roll up the web? Thanks

Ethel was on Big Apple with her high-jumping greyhounds. She did not do the trap act as I recall. Around the same time, her daughter, JoAnn was presenting AERIALETTA II, also a sea lion act with SUNNY. The last time I saw JoAnn she was on Sells and Gray someplace on the east coast.
