Good News!

Just received an eMail from Charlie Gray saying that they had another Asian Elephant born yesterday at their Canadian facility, a male they have named "LOGAN".
The father is "Rex", his second, and the mother is "Lily" her third.
Congratulations!

Buckles, Here's a crazy question for you. We have a chain of restuarants in our area, Red Robin. When you enter them they have old pictures all over the place. There is an elephant sitting up on a metal tub, back to you, with a little kid with his arm around the elephant. Every restuarant has the picture. My wife keeps asking me who the elephant is. Any idea?

Not crazy at all. I have seen the picture many times, mostly in the tabloids.
It was taken with Circus Roberts in England.

the zoo in syracuse,ny might be sending 2 of their elephants up there because of space. the elephants are a mother and daughter. she was the one that had the baby male elephant that died i think. there is another female elephant that is pregnant and is going to be ready to give birth sometime this summer.

That's two births in the Ontario program in the past year, and they're into their second generation. Of course activists like to claim that Canada is too cold for elephants, and that reproductive conservation/captive breeding doesn't work and the thought of managing captive herds as a safe guard sends them into screaming fits. Thankfully (he says with tongue in cheek) TN has taken the pledge never to allow a fertile female "bull" to reproduce. No, wait, they'd need a male for that, wouldn't they?

Seriously, every live birth is great news.

Ben, you are so right.

That's great news and a nice tribute to Fred Logan as well. Hope the word is passed on to him.

VISITED WITH FREDDIE LOGAN TODAY. INFORMED HIM OF THE NEW ELEPHANT BIRTH, AND OF, THE NAMING OF SAME AFTER HIM. HE WANTS TO THANK CHARLIE GRAY VERY MUCH FOR THE HONOR BESTOWED UPON HIM.
FREDDIE IS IN A REHAB HOME IN VENICE AND TRYING TO GET WELL. IT IS AN UPHILL STRUGGLE FOR HIM, AS HE HAD LOST OVER 40LBS. HE NOW HAS A FEEDING TUBE AND, RELUCTANLY, HAS PHYSICAL THERAPY EVERYDAY.
NEXT TUES>(18th) makes 8 weeks, he has either, been in the hospital or in rehab. I am including a phone number for him. 941-485-8815. Give him a call, I'm sure he would like to hear from some folks. He won't talk long, but he will appreciate the call.

The African Lion Safari is in Rockton, near Hamilton Ontario. I used to run a theatre in Hmilton and took my children to the Safari quite oftn. It is a great place. I don't recall many elephants, if any, at that time in the early 70s...right after my time with RBBB and the Great Feld Wars.

I met my wife of 21 years at the Safari, She worked with the birds of prey then. She lived on the next road over from it, Her parents still have thier 150 acre farm there. Spent many hours visiting with the staff then. What an outstanding job Charlie has done. Many many congrats Charlie! Lee Stevens
