DeMille movie #5

This is the movie's blow off with the rag-taggle parade. Oddly enough there were more former Ringling performers in this shot than present, even Capt. Heyer and "Starless Night" were recruited.

In 1957 when I was with the show, we walked about a dozen elephants down town from the
winter quarters for an annual parade with a Latin name, something like the Gasparilla Parade they do up here in Tampa. Maybe they still do it.

It has been at least 40 yrs aince seeing this movie and I am not an afficianado. Do you know where this scene was shot? It looks so nice to have a real street with stores.

The parade sequence in GSOE was shot on Saturday morning, Feb.17,1951. It was on Main St. in downtown Sarasota at the intersection of Main St.,Central Ave & Pineapple Ave.(Five Points). The parade continued down Main St. past Lemon Ave down to Central. It made a left on Central and then a left on 1st St. continuing back to Pineapple and Main. They actually went around twice, probably to get all the angle shots and overhead angles.
Of course some of the really close up shots of the stars were shot with green screen back in Hollywood. I hope this helps a little.
Great site Buckles. Love all the photos. I think the parade you were mentioning was the "Sara-de Soto" parade help each year in Sarasota.

Another screwed up thing of the past. Downtown The ones still around you do not want to go there at night. Same can be said for the UGH Malls.
