I met Mr. Hoover several times during his career and mine. He was always a kind gentleman to visit with. He also knew the first hand wrath of animal do gooders. My heartfelt blessings go out to his wife and family. Bob
I also played several dates with Mr Hoover back when there were three rings of cage acts. I was only 19 and he was very nice to me. He pulled a little three wheel car that he got in Europe one season behind his semi trailer. He had funny stories to tell between shows when we congragated on the ring curbs. Another fine circus person that will be missed.
I have only one distinct memory of Clyde Beatty from the early 60's -- I must have been around six years old at the time. But I have a wealth of childhood memories of Dave Hoover. You could learn a lot watching a fighting act once you saw past what was a prop and what was a tool. I certainly learned a lot watching Dave.
Buckles could you please post information about arrangements for Dave Hoover. I have informed most of the Dave Hoover Ring #61 Long Island NY of the Circus Model Builders. We would like to send something on to Lois and George. Dave always made members of his namesake ring welcomed on the lot. We pass along our condolences to Lois and George. Thank you Joe Giordano
Dear Blogmeister, We were so greatly sadden to learn of Dave Hoover's passing and certainly echo Joe Giordano's comments. I always enjoyed swapping cigars and information with Dave. In regard to another fine day of blogging Diane and I are absolutly sure that the young fellow in the game farm shot is in fact Ben not Shannon.
As many fans of Dave Hoover will remember, he was not only a terrific performer in the steel arena but also did a great job painting banner line murals on trucks. I watched his handiwork on the Beatty-Cole show in Illinois several years ago. My condolences to Lois and George.
Not 5 years ago I met Dave Hoover briefly & saw his act. He impresed me with his distinct style, confident, stately, professional, proud manor & was harmonious within the dynamic confrentation portraid with the large cats in his " Act " . A true Showman !
Dave called me in Texas to join him for the 1980 Winter Tour of the Beatty show. I stayed with him for the '81 tour. He certainly will be missed as one of the good guys in the business.
So long, Dave. I know you're at peace on The Big Lot.
