Thats a whole Lotta Rosie!!!!
( thats the title of an old AC/DC Song)
Is this the elephant that skeleton used to be mounted at the Minnestota Museum of Science?
I have no idea. I suppose it might be possible to ship the hide and skeleton from Washington to Minnesota.
Whats an AC/DC song?
Was there a elephant name Rose who died near Minnesota in the 1960's?
AC/DC is a heavy metal rock n roll band from Australia. They had a lot of hits during the 1980's.
I have a "Rosie" listed with Clyde Bros. Circus (Howard Suesz) in 1973.
All I have is that she was purchased that year to replace another elephant but died that same year.
That's all I have.
Clyde Bros. showed mostly Shrine Circuses in the mid-West and if she died while the show was on tour she might be the one.
I watched Billy Rose's Jumbo last night on Turner Movies Classics. I'd forgot how well done the opening of the movie was! Happy New Year to you and yours Buckles! Gary
These days Doris Day is such PETAstyle activist, when the circus comes to town here she and her cronies are the first ones to object.
Some of these [stars] seem to forget that we knew them before they became experts about animals. Some one said they knew Doris Day before she became a virgin. We knew a peta person when she was begging for work and like fools we tried to help her. Now she knows it all and is stealing the shirt off our backs.
Some time ago, on this site, we were remembering how Rudy entered the arena for May Kovar during the lion attack. He was a quiet man, and I only had a few conversations with him. When he died, the Thousand Oaks News-Chronicle gave him a full-page write-up. He had rarely spoken of his career, and us young guys at Jungleland looked upon his memory with renewed respect. Some recall Mabel Stark as hard and distant. She wept at Rudy's passing.
I have noticed the real animal trainers from the old days being called distent and cold to people. But they were the best with animals and always respected by their peers. Hugo, Eloise. Mable. Bill Woodcock. Once you got to know them .They were the best friends you would ever want forever. They did not suffer fools. They spoke few words, but you sure listened and learned when they did. We must always remember them, Some are not well known, behind the curtain people, but circus people know who they are. Females that did not get the center ring.
Speaking of peta. Would you believe tes has excepted a donation in SUE's memory> Jolly Balls for the other Hawthorn Elephants! Is it legal for a non profit to except donations for an animal they do not own? Bet SUE would have liked one. Are they profiting from an animal they were responsiable for killing?
Rudy Mueller's Big Rosie, star of the 1935 JUMBO, died in March 1949, after which Rudy and Anna got "Shipwreck Rosie."
