4-Paw Modoc

Chappie Fox gave me this when I was in Baraboo, pointing out that the elephants names were on the blankets.
Too bad Helfer didn't see this he could have added 20 or 25 years to Modoc,s age.
Anonymous still thinks I acted in haste in denouncing his book, citing a passage whereas when playing a rumba, his elephant would go into her old Ringling dance.
Fortunately he wasn't playing a Sousa March, she just might have farted "The Stars and Stripes Forever".

Reportly at one time the
Adam Forepaugh show had on the road
25 elephants with an additional 8,either at the winter quarters in Philadelphia or leased out to other circusus.
On March.14.1887
the Adam Forepaugh and Barnum&Bailey show combined for a show at Madison Square Garden.
They had a total of 60 elephants,
30 of which performed.
They were worked in the ring by
William"Elephant Bill"Newman(Barnum&Bailey)
Adam Forepaugh Jr(Adam Forepaugh show)
Eph Thompson(Adam Forepaugh show)

The two shows comined again
in 1888 for a show under canvas in Philadeplphia,Pa.

Bolivar was donated to the Philadelphia zoo on Christmas Day 1888.
Bolivar was led in my Adam Forepaugh Jr. and his grooms down the street in front of a crowd of thousands of people.
Bolivar never left the zoo again alive,he died July 31.1908,at the age of (approx)46 years old.

Bolivar was a muckna also known in India as a hind.
He was reportly the largest elephant in America prior to Jumbo's arrival for the Barnum show at Madison Square Garden in April 1882,after September.15. 1885(when Jumbo was killed by the train up in St.Thomas Ontario Canada) Bolivar was once again the biggest elephant in America.
Jumbo had a foot in height on Bolivar but Bolivar had more massive proportions and girth then Jumbo.(reporters at the time noted that Jumbo looked like he could have used a good feeding)
Bolivar had a shoulder height of about 10 feet.
