Al G. Barnes Circus 1933/ Blacksmith shop

Lots of horses on shows in those days both in the performance and as baggage stock and the blacksmith was always busy.
The area was also used for other types of metal work and general maintenence.

Buckles, I'm glad you showed a Blacksmith on the circus. You know I've been a Farrier since I left the show back in the 70's. Got any more photo's? Thanks again, Gary

Gary,

Blacksmiths were a very important part of the circus during the 50's and 60's. They were the backbone of the circus and if something broke it was the blacksmith that held the fort together.

Buckles,

Are you sure on the year? In 1933 the correct year.
Judging by the horse and the style of blacksmith. I would say this photo was little earlier than 1933. It looks more of the 1920's technology of blacksmith.

My father worked on the AL g Barnes Cirus during the 1935-41 campaign. Some of my best memories were of done by the animal tricks of that era. I went to the circus 5 years ago and was highly disappointed. RBBB has gotten to corporate and lost a lot of it's class. I am not sure what the downfall of the circus has been but the talent performs are not there. RBBB is lackign the trainers and performs it use to have.

Everyone is on this blog instead of the circus. If something were done about the animal terroiest(?) the circus would come back. I have dibbs on the pie car.
