| Helping to relieve the tension is some so-called “comic relief” supplied by Mexican actor Pedro Gonzalez-Gonzales, shown here being bested by a boxing kangaroo. (Gonzalez-Gonzales had roles in many of John Wayne’s films.)

Pedro Gonzalez-Gonzalez was so well-loved in the film industry, they called him "The actor so nice, they named him twice." Even when he wasn't cast in a Wayne film, the Duke often paid him $20,000 a week just to have him on the set. This from PGG's oral history taken during a visit to the Hertzberg, when he also spoke of being raised on small Mexican circuses which played 2 or 3 different neighborhoods in the same town.
