This is a photo of my dad Jack LeClair, he was always a white face clown.

A very rare photo of a very famous clown that so many of us have worked with. I wonder if you would care to use it as a "Guess who this clown is?' The photo was taken with a box brownie camera in 1927 on the Downie Bros Circus. It was given to me by the girls from the Peler (not sure of the spelling). It was in their grandmothers album, I think her name was something like Leatha. She passed away at about 100. The girls removed this photo from one of the old albums she left. As you can see, they could not remove the photo tabs on one side that held the photo without destroying the photo. This the the family that Bob Snowden married into. I am sure you know them much better that I. I really feel this photo is a rare one. I spoke to Chic about it and he gave me your email address and how to send this. I told him who it was but he said he would not tell anyone. I loved him dearly and am sure you did too and respected him as just about one of the funniest clowns that the American circus ever saw.
My love to Barbara and family. Jackie

Elephant Act Jacket, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Hi Buckles,
Sorry that I am sending these photos so long after the group discussion but my computer was out of commission again for a few weeks.
Since there was lengthy discussion about the costumes worn by Lye Bettger in The Greatest Show On Earth, I thought the readers might enjoy seeing them up close.
I have many costumes worn by Bettger, Hutton, Stewart and others in my collection.
The red elephant act jacket was in great shape when I obtained it. All I had to do was replace the epaulets as they had but ugly red ones on the jacket. I had these epaulets custom made to match the originals.

The purple spec jacket was a different story. I had to replace all the beaded ropes and also the dangling cones.

Mini & Older Klaus, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

The third photo is of me when I recreated the rest of the elephant act costume. I was invited to walk with Doug Terranova's elephants in the Circus City Festival parade in 2004.
I called myself a mini-Klaus (of course much older also).
As to the comments about Lyle Bettger wearing a wedding ring. I checked all my stills from the film and it is not exactly a wedding ring. Upon close examination you can see that the ring has an oval top. I didn't think that DeMille would let them wear a wedding ring.
Hope the readers enjoy seeing the photos.

"I would assume that these last two pictures are connected in
some way with the De Mille Movie.
Maybe regarding the scene when the elephants are carrying
the circus ladies and their luggage to the train.
This, however, looks like a discussion between Arky and
his principal Elephant Empress, Jeanie Sleeter.
I might add that there was no "Mabel" in the '51 herd.

Hagenbeck Wallace TIGER TITLE (c.1930) one-sheet

From Chris Berry:

During the late 1920s and early 1930s, Hagenbeck-Wallace was truly a "Wild Animal Circus". At a time when Ringling-Barnum had very few wild-animal acts, Hagenbeck Wallace was heavily promoting them not only with Clyde Beatty's center ring performance - but also the work of his predecessor's, John Helliott and Robert M...cPherson. This attractive litho was used by America's second largest circus at the start of the Great Depression.

Tim Tegge - 2010, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Hi Buckles and Barbara -

I have images that could use ID's and thought that your viewers may be a good option.

This shot was taken on Cindy Migley's CIRCUS SPECTACULAR in Fargo, ND earlier this year by a Shrine photographer. This one makes it look as though I'm belting out a tune (the Polka Dot Polka perhaps?), but rest assured, there's no crooning in TNT's near future!

Emma Campa, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

I enjoyed seeing the photo of EMMA CAMPA posted a few days back. This shot, a hand-colored 8x10 in my collection sat unidentified for years. Only a couple of years back did someone finally give me the ID. I LOVE THIS PICTURE! Years ago, long-gone circus fan DOC CONLEY (from Park Ridge, IL) gave me several photographs, and on the back of a photo of him with Kitty Clark he scribbled "and my wife thinks I go to the circus for the elephants!" He should have seen this photo!

KELLY MILLER 59 CD, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

I am re-mastering a bunch of old audio recordings to CD. All of which are available online through my new site - www.circustimevideo.com - This one in particular is a real gem: the 1959 KELLY-MILLER show, with Voss on the bandstand and COL. HARRY THOMAS at the microphone. The recording includes pre-show calliope concert segment, almost the entire performance (with announcements), the Wild West Concert announcement, and a chunk of the actual WW after show, as well.

AGKM Interior - Full, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

I've always loved this shot of the AGKM interior, shot by Orin C. King, of Topeka. I have reproduced this one inside the 1959 AGKM CD booklet.

"I looked this picture over closely hoping for a glimpse of myself
when a high-steppin' candy butcher. No luck.
Chicken roosts all the way around, no aisles to sell your wares.
Look at Dick Scatterday's assortment of National Banners."

AGKM PARADE 1961, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Since I'm in a KELLY-MILLER mode, here's a terrific shot of a street parade from almost fifty years ago. Gone are the days!

"I'm sure this is the "Circus Days" parade in Hugo giving D.R. a chance to show off his new animal semis. That's Whitey Thorn riding "Margaret"."

This appears to be the the same truck as seen in the
previous picture, purchased to accommodate the five
Russell Bros. elephants purchased from Art Concello.
"Margaret", "Elsie", "Daisy" "Dixie" and "Myrtle"
Trying to see how many hey can squeeze in are John
Carroll, Whitey Thorn, Joe Pete and Dores Miller.
I was later told that this unit was originally designed
to carry oil drums.

Buckles,
Photos of the Shrine in Dallas TX this year. I sure liked the colorful ring mats they had also the gals were all .uniformed for the rides and looked sharp.
Did not get to many photos on the acts as lots of visiting was done on my part.
