Buckles, Chris and I returned about a week ago from a trip overseas to India and Bhutan. We were gone for about 4 weeks. The attached is a sample of some of the currency India uses. The front side of the 10 rupee note has a picture of Gandhi on it. The reverse side of the note reminds me of some of the old circus letterhead art. Thought I would share it with your blogsite. Incidentally I recently heard that the Indian government ordered all Asian elephants in Indian zoos and circuses, about 140 in all, to be placed in government sanctuaries. The fate of the elephants in logging operations remains uncertain. We saw quite a number giving rides in Jaipur -- we had never seen so many Asian elephants in one place before. We were told there were 97 in the Jaipur area, mainly for rides and Hindu weddings. We also visited one of the ride elephant stables in Jaipur. Bill Schreiber |
