This photo is of Erv and Carmen I am not seen however did work in the act shown.
I believe it was this same year that became my debut as the Wonder Boy from Denmark A.K.A Blunder boy from Denmark as my dad would remark frequently. That dam Deiter Tasso had arrived in the U.S. and I was cut out of the heard to do the cup and saucers act on a table as a solo. We toured three or four seasons with Clyde Bros, the last season would have been 1961 also worked on the Rex Bros, another of Howard's titles, the third I knew was of course Hagen Bros;Although we visited a lot on that unit but never got to tour with it.
I recall during that time period seeing Tony Smaha Sr., Eddy Akins and Rex Williams work the pachaderms.
P.S. Glad to see this program surface as Mr Harriot about had me convinced we weren't there ! lol
J.C. Hall...Better have Tepa start serving you carrot sticks and Granola so you can start practicing your tea-cups again...Cause in 4 weeks Lovey is makin me quit smokin.....
The Halls--Great performers from their very beginning.
Jimmy mentions Hagen Bros. Although I claim Clyde Beatty as my first real circus boss, technically it has to go to Enoch Brafford, Suesz's canvas boss on his Hagen unit. Only months before I joined Mr. Beatty, I helped Brafford set up and tear down that awful push-pole top, and that night, he paid my first circus wages, four 25-cent pieces. I should add, I did get Cookhouse--a lunch of wienies and beans with one slice of white bread. The lesson learned--I didn't want a career on Canvas. Those guys work too hard.
Roger,
You didn't come from the missions or drink, so you were not destined to be a canvasman.
