John Robinson Circus #2

This is a great picture.
The camel riders and the sacred cattle hitch in the background are less interesting than the car in the foreground and the attitude of it's occupants.
A slice of Americana.

Does anyone remember a candy butcher called "Camel Rider"?
I used to work with him. I think his real name was Nordeen.

Buckles;
I knew him. His ex-wife is still working in a popcorn trailer for Butch Netterfield. She lives in Gibsonton, during the off-season.
Camel-rider used to run with Kenny McConnell and afew others on the Ringling Show, in the early 50's. I knew Kenny pretty well, and he told some good stories, of these guys, when they were together.

Camels, sacred cows, miniature horses and even elephants always caused long gaps in the Milwaukee parades because they could not keep pace with the horses pulling the wagons. Many such "lead stock" features were ultimately eliminated because of the problem that alienated parade watchers. Marching bands playing music of an improper tempo also caused the same issues, along with their short-step technique. Circuses generally didn't have marching bands, but how did they avoid creating blocks-long gaps in their street presentations with their non-horse mammals?

Dear Anonymous,
You seem to have a veritable wealth of information about a wide variety of wagons and other useful information, but you always hide behind the sidewall, I think it is time for you to tell us who you are. I sign my name just about every time I comment, unless it is a joking type of answer.
