I had the privilage of knowing Gaylord for over 25 years. He was a 100% showman in everything he did. His Chief Bearpaw act will go down in circus history as a classic.

Gaylord always had a smile for people, even when visited at an inopportune time. May he rest in peace. I'll bet he's up there riding the 1st Bearpaw right now.

Gaylord Maynard was a good friend and a great trainer. We had many good visits to Arabian Nights.

Gaylord was the consumate show biz guy. He understood the need for an act to have a begining a middle and an end. He taught me this and many other realities of show biz many years ago on Garden Bros. With it and for it, you will be missed Gaylord.

A wonderful friendship and association with the entire Herriott Family for some forty years. Gaylord had such a variety of great talents that each one was in the top bracket of professionalizm. A toght wire act, circus clown [how he loved the clown band on Hubert Castle with Gene Randow and others], Wild west, whip cracking performer, musician [excellent drummer and organist] trampoline and aerial acts. When he was, for anumber of seasons the world's funniest thrill show clown with the awesome "Aut Swenson Thrillcade" and then into horses with top high school presentations and before "Bear Paw", he put together with sidekick Benny Cristiani on the Lippizan Show, Three white mules in a comedy parady of the Lippizan Stallions an riders that was hilarious. And then his comedy genius and timing to make it one of the funniest comedy acts in showbusiness.

He arranged my routine and music for my saddlebred presentation on the Lippizan show and it was great. His genius in production, lights, wardrobe and music. All the great things he did ,plus all the wonderful ideas of things he still wanted to do.

He never forgot and was so proud of his roots and the tough times, along with the good. The joy and laughter he brought into our home can never be duplicated. He had just recently done a tape of him singing and also dvd of his latest "Bear Paw" that he brought to us. A few years ago on a shrine date passing his trailor in late morning and hearing sounds I knocked, entered and there he was teaching himself to play the Bango and doing quite well.

I could go on and on about Gaylord, as I am sure his other hosts of friends could do the same. I'll close by saying that he was an act that the performers would come out of the dressing room, stand in the entance corriders and watch him work with Bear Paw time after time and still be laughing.

His closing bit was a hilarious " how about a good night kiss" followed by his last comment before the black out of GOODNIGHT. I can only say "Goodnight dear friend. You brightened our lives like no other.

With deepest sympathy to his family from Johnny, Mary Ruth and the entire Herriott family.
