Elephant Headpieces #2

The Adele Nelson elephants "Myrtle", "Tillie" and "Jenny" with Louie Reed at right. He liked the European style but placed the bit much higher so it would fit thru their mouths.
Smokey said they still wore this type when they came to the Dailey Show in 1942. Barbara always claimed these headpieces with the crossed straps were the best she ever worked with, plenty of places to grip. We always used a varation of this in "Anna May's" single act, much to the dismay of Irvin Feld, Barbara said that a porcelain plate was too slippery to stand on.
That's Jimmy Hicks at left in the picture.
