Jules Jacot #1

I already had six pictures from Wayne Jackson scanned, sliced, diced and ready for print when these arrived from Eric Beheim. Since they dove-tail so neatly with yesterday's Jacot pictures and stories I decided to include them today and show the Smokey Jones/Bobby Moore pix Monday.
Mr. Beheim says they are from the St. Louis Zoo circa 1951.

Since they were shot from the back of the arena, might they be the post cards of which John Herriott spoke?

I recognize this set of photos, they were from a set of disc slides that were sold with a hand held viewer or slide projector in the 1950's A very popular kids toy of that era. There were a few other circus related slide sets also. I think the company was called "View Master". They may be still in buisness, but the older disc slides can only be found in anitque stores and on e-bay.

Quick subject change. Jim has some wonderful pictures of the BIRTHDAY GIRL. Now here is a showgirl that makes the animals look dull. My idol, mentor and the only female I ever enveyed in the ring. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BARBARA The orginal ELEPHANT EMPRESS

You can buy vintage reels as collectibles and new ones as a Fischer Price toy. Some play sounds now.

In recent years, a fundraiser for a children's museum sent new red viewers and a reel of photos of museum supporters at a party. Apparently you can custom order a few hundred or a thousand reels with your own pics. Fun and memorable on desks of big bucks contributors who get a lot of appeals (unlike me!).

From Eric:

These photos were in fact scanned from the View-Master reels featuring the St. Louis Zoo animal acts circa 1951. One reel was devoted to the lion act, one to the elephant act, and the third to the chimp act.
