More from Jack Ryan #2

It was always a great kick to take celebrities into the backyard and even a greater kick if they agreed to pose for publicity photos.
Here I am with the unforgettable Pearl Bailey, in the back yard at Madison Square Garden, probably 1969. Pearlie May was then starring on Broadway in the all African-American mounting of "Hello, Dolly".
Also note the incomparable Capt. Hugo Schmitt at left with a baby elephant. Buckles will likely know the punks name....

What a way to start the day, looking at Pearl Bailey, another, "one in a lifetime"!

I was wondering if that was Little John, the elephant ?

By the time we arrived on the scene in 1973 he would have been about 8 and by no means "little".

This is the youngest picture of John I've seen. I beleive he came to the show in 1966. Buckles do you know how old he was on arrival and where he came from.

In my notes I see he was purchased from the Rhue Kiddie Zoo in Oakland, CA in 1966 while the show was on tour. So he must have been very small.
