More from Jack Ryan #1

Taken in the Venice WQ backyard in early January 1970. Irvin (always "Mr. Feld" to me) is being shown, for his approval, the mock-up of the invitation to the opening night performance/party of the 100th Anniversary Edition in Madison Square Garden.
Surrounding Irvin: an account executive from the Blaine-Thompson Advertising Agency in NYC (whose name escapes me), yours truly, and super-NYC press agent Lee Solters (my boss at the time).
In the background is a bandwagon float, complete with dummies, that was part of the 100th Anniversary spec, "The First 100 Years".

At mine and Barbara's sole appearance at Mr. Feld's show party at his penthouse in 1978, as the affair started to break up, a poker table appeared and the inner circle rolled up their sleeves and the place turned into a scene from the "Cincinnati Kid". As we were leaving I heard someone say "Deal the damn cards Irv".

I came to the US in 1970 and the 100th anniversary edition was the first American show I had ever seen. Needless to say, I couldn't believe my eyes. I can't speak for Ringling or the big tent shows before then, because I have only seen pictures, but I still think it is mind boggling that a touring show could orchestrate that many performers, animals and equipment. It sure put any other type of production to shame. I'm positive that it will never be duplicated again.
