When Rick Pfening introduced Mr. Vargas at a CHS Convention he pointed out that his show exceeded the "30 car railroad show" hallmark set in the 1920's.
Now who would have had operated a show that size longer than him? James A. Bailey, the Ringling brothers, Adam Forepaugh and the American Circus Corporation. That's all we could come up with.
Trudy & I were on the Vargas show for 2 years & loved it, to begin with since we were in Texas and were going on the show the following year we joined in their closing town and went to Quarters with them for 7 or 8 weeks. The first season we did 44 weeks & less than 15,000 miles, then after 7 more weeks in Quarters we did 45 weeks, & again less than 15,000 miles. I was more used to 15 weeks & 45,000 miles.
That may be the same party where my dad chased Mr V around the pool threatening him that he would pull his wig off. I remember Mr V screaming and running.
Those were the good ole days!

I wonder why when I print a page on the blog, the one of Barbara on the side bar never prints? Is it the black back ground? The only room in my place that I use wild animals as decoration is my bed room. I would like to have this picture when I put my Zebra things out. Every since I started my business 20 years ago clients have been bring me wolf things or dog things. Since the blog I have been getting quite a collection of wild animal items. I have always had a collection of elephants but for some reason I am getting a lot of white tiger things. Barbaras wardrobe in this picture would fit in just right.
Hey Buckles,
That picture reflects the energy that Mr. V had, not only when he partied, but in his love for his circus. Ted and I were there ten years and probably was the best ten years of our careers. he loved to make the show bigger and better every year. More girls, more acts, more clowns, and always more animals. I always felt he set the bar high for the other shows.I remember that picture like it was yesterday, not 23 years ago
