Clyde Beatty Circus 1967

This was taken on the Beatty Show lot by Jimmy Cole in Meridian, Miss. I have sent it out many times before but I like it a lot.

Rex was a towering figure and had a unique way of imparting life lessons.

In my formative years we saw Rex a lot. I recall one weekend at the Herriot house in Sarasota. I was 19 years old and had just arrived from Texas. I was in college at University of South Florida.

There was a big party at the Herriot's on Friday night.
After a long night I awoke early to find Rex sitting on the porch somewhat hung over struggling to tie his shoes. Well I go over and try and help him. I reach down and the next thing remember was this big hand whacking me up side the head. When I came to Rex said "Son, don't ever tie another mans shoes."

Rex bowed to no one and was kind enough to share this philosophy with me that weekend in 1973. Needless to say this lesson was well taken. I use it daily!

A nice smack up side the head never hurt any man. You smack them then run like hell. Only do this to those over 20 years of age. Thats when the skull gets to thick to do damage. JOKE

Can/t believe I just wrote that. I have roofing tar on my mouse and in my blueberry pie. The DEVIL made me write that comment.
