Circus Vargas

Received this from Rex Williams daughter Darlene and decided to send it out tonight since there's no way to know how the computer will work in the morning.
To the best of her memory, on the left side were "Betty Boop", "Tusko", "Judy", "Katie" and "Lottie'. Eva Willians on the center elephant "Joe" and on the right side "Reed" (ridden by Darlene), "Hattie", "Gardner", "Gypsy" and "McLain".
Of course in front astride "Yankee" is Rex Williams.

She didn't include a date. By clicking on the picture it will enlarge a bit.

There are more elephants here than on any one unit of what use to be the Greatest Show On Earth.

WOW! Great picture! It must have been a wonderful act to see! Are you in the picture Darlene? Is that your Dad on horseback? Annie

What a great and exciting life you and your family must have had! This is gorgeous. How many years spent on Vargas? Thanks, Annie

I am the girl on the right side, the elephant I am on is Reed. I think I was 14 years old. I don't remember the girl's name on the left side of the photo.

My mom Eva is on the center elephant (Joe) and my dad is on the horse (Yankee)

-the elephants on the right side of the long mount are:
Reed
Hattie
Garner
Gypsy
McClaine (spelling)

-then on the left side of the long mount are:
Lottie
Judy
Tusko
?
and last is Bettie Boob

Thanks Buckles for putting this up on your site.

I hope this isn't a sensitive subject, but I rarely see Benny's name mentioned. What is he doing now?

Vargas (in my opinion anyway) was the best three ring show in the 70's. Great acts, a very nice tent, lots of modern amenities, well painted (mostly new) trucks. First class animals acts, etc. We'll never see that again.

Ben lives in Ruskin, FL and drives a gasoline tanker out of Tampa.

I am glad to see "Garner" performing! When I had him in Texas in 71 his name was Tarzan.

Buckles, I am guessing that McClain was a male? That would make 4 males in this presentation?

Buckles said...

I count five Joe, Reed, Tusko, Gardner and McLain.

Right I missed Tusko , DUH!

Yes, Joe, Reed, Tusko, Gardner and McLain were all males.

Buckles-I can't seem to sign in as a blogger?

Darlene, One of the requirements to use this blog is the unability to spell. If you don't make mistakes you are over quailfied and have too much schooling. I am so glad you have joined the rest of us. The blog needed more female input. I was on some shows with your dad even though I did not know it at the time. Wish I had paid more attention at a younger age.

Dear Douanita,
Nice hearing from you, the elephants in this picture are from Circus Vargas and are listed by name above in comment #4. The big male in the center is currently on tour with Circus Krone.
Feel free to send any pictures you would like to share.
