#13 The Big Cage

Albert told me that he served in the German Army during WW2 on the Russian Front and described the final days when their position was overrun by a host that included wild haired women with scythes.
He said he spent a long term in a Russian Concentration Camp and survived by scratching for certain insects he had seen the bears eat while in the Berlin Zoo and remained fit to a point he was sometimes accused of collusion.
One morning they awoke to utter silence and found the gates wide open then shortly after the arrival of American Troops.

I hope stories like this will not be lost to history. So many things in people's backgrounds that shape who they become.
