Many photos of Arky show him stern and tough-looking, and as a veteran circus elephant boss, he could be. But out here, with Jungleland's 7 elephants, and George A. Young as his sole assistant, Arky was among the most loved of our old-timers. The best of times were when Arky and Mabel sat jackpotting at her special table, revisiting old shows and great names as only they could do. I never missed being there, realizing what golden moments these were.
For elephant historians, the girls in our herd were Betty, Boon, Topsy, Taffy, Jewel, Marie, and Bimbo. We were auctioned off over October 8 & 9, 1969. I have no history for these elephants after we closed.
