Buckles, is that Hattie the same Hattie that was on Circus Vargas before and during 1979 and 1985? That was the last year Ben and I were on Circus Vargas.

Same elephant!
Very shy and terrified of horses.
I remember the scuffle when Rex first introduced a horse into the Vargas elephant act.

What has become of her? Peggy aka Eva was the only elephant I rode on RBBBC in Spec and I rode and did mounts with Hattie on Vargas. When elephant Shirley slipped and broke her leg while walking on wet pavement, Dione got moved up to Hattie and I "had" to ride the long legged model at the end of the picket line where night watchman Slimbo was. That elephants name was Tus or something like that. She knew nothing...other than doing a helicopter spin or trying to hang someone. Perhaps she just did not have the energy and may have been ill. She died while I was there. Do you know her history?
Hattie was a great elephant until the horse got too close. I waved bye while ducking guide wires and the entrance banner as she ran down the track a few times. Hup,hup, hey! Rodeo!! Thank you for having this fine blog of worldwide information!

Darlene,

Hattie died from tuberculosis at the age of twenty-six at Hawthorn Corp.(prior to my return) Her "friend" Lottie was one of the sweetest elephant's I have ever had the pleasure of being around. She used to pull her left nipple when she was excited. It was 4 1/2 inches long in 2005, when she left for TES. Tus was the elephant that keeled over, while drinking water after the show, I believe.
