May (or Mae) Kovar, wife of Harry Kovar. They came over with Court. She was killed by a lion at World Jungle Compound, on December 20, 1949. She followed the practice of some European trainers, which had the artist standing by the tunnel door, poised to drive the animals from behind. May's tunnel door man closed the door too quickly, catching the lion's tail. He spun around, and there stood May, with her back against the bars, defenseless against the fangs aimed at her neck. Rudy Moeller went in for her, but she had died instantly of a snapped spinal cord. Rudy fought the lion off and kept him from mauling the body.
