Big Bob Stevens

Big Bob Stevens (Stefenson) had some good sized circuses on the road using the Bailey Bros. title but renamed Robbins Bros. when we were with it in 1949 due to too much heat over the Lucky Boys.
A blustery gentleman my father always referred to as "The Catfish".
I thought his greatest accomplishment was buying four baby elephants in 1947 and hiring Mack MacDonald to train them.
My father later told me they were the finest elephants he had ever worked.
Well remembered  as the Oscar Cristiani elephants.

I'm doing a documentary for regional PBS on the Bailey Bros. circus and its winter quarters at the Brady Lake Amusement Park in NE Ohio, from November 1944 to April 1945. The circus was incorporated in Ohio in March 1944 by Edward Kleinman of Cleveland. How did he know Stevens? Ruthie, the elephant who had been known as Linco since 1928, joined the circus in late summer. She died in 1944 at Brady Lake. From what? When did Dolly Jacobs' Modoc, Empress and Judy join Bailey Bros.? They were in Brady Lake in that winter of 44-45. Any help greatly appreciated. Fred Endres (fendres@kent.edu)
