This is one of Clyde Beatty’s Hagenbeck-Wallace lions, appearing through the courtesy of stock footage lifted from Beatty’s 1934 serial THE LOST JUNGLE. In his book JUNGLE PERFORMERS, Beatty describes how one of the wagon barns at the H-W winter quarters in Peru, Indiana was converted into a jungle set complete with a water hole, for filming animal sequences. (Several of the animal sequences that were filmed in Peru for THE LOST JUNGLE turn up in JUNGLE JIM.)
