If this is Louis Roth’s tiger Bobby, than that might be Betty Roth doubling for Betty Jane Rhodes. (In TARZAN AND HIS MATE, Betty Roth had doubled for Maureen O’Sullivan during Jane’s “close encounter” scenes with lions.)
It's Bobby, all right. Both Louies, Roth and Goebel, kept him busy even with scripts set in Africa. In this one, no explanation is offered for a tiger showing up.
In TARZAN AND HIS MATE (MGM,1934), as noted, Betty Kenyon Roth doubled Maureen O'Sullivan for lion shots. But Ms. O'Sullivan required yet another double, Olympic gold-medalist Josephine McKim, for the swimming scenes. Not that Maureen couldn't swim. Who, besides Ted Turner and I, remembers why?
Back in Chapter 1, some tigers were shown escaping ashore after a sailing ship carrying a "wild cargo" from Asia is wrecked off the African coast. This sort of explains why tigers are living wild in this part of Africa.
