Saucey and Salt hmm ?
I am sure I have heard those names in the past or was that Salty and Saucey on the picket line? Or also referred to as the welcoming committee.

Yes, and with his son Jamie they wrote a book about the life of these two elephants titled "The Legend of Salt and Sauce" There were originally four elephants but the other two, Mustard and Pepper, died early on. They were acquired from Hagenbeck in 1901. In a runaway down a narrow alley in 1904, Sauce crushed trainer George Lockhardt, killing him. Previously, Lockhart had 3 different elephants in an act that came to the US, played vaudeville and spent 1897 and 1900 on the Ringling show. It was a novelty in the US but typical of European comedic elephants acts with a tricycle, band, and restaurant routine.
