Forepaugh 1891 From The Book of Wonders Col Boone & Millie Carlotta Tenth Act A Royal Team
The performance concludes with the great chariot scene. Three monstrous lions are yoked to a golden chariot, and made to draw the famous Colonel around the ring at a great rate of speed. This act is a splendid sight, probably the most exciting and inspiriting one ever offered to the public. Three monster tawny headed massive brutes, yoked in silk and silver harness, flying like the wind, at word of command. Truly it is a royal team, the kings of the jungle drawing their master man. These are the first harnessed lions ever seen on earth, and the picture they present is a never to be forgotten one. Madly they fly around the track while Saxon eager to help his master flies from heel to heel of the whirling trio, and goads them to greater effort. The lions are monsters in size, and owing to the tremendous leaps they take they cover ground very rapidly. Colonel Boone is 6 feet 2 inches, broad shouldered and wide breasted, of magnificent physique throughout, and looks every inch a king, while with silken whip and commanding word his urges his royal team to greater and greater effort.
