The man behind the big top. Cotton Fenner, the promotion executive behind early Feld shows including the circus. Unknown to many circus folks as he died suddenly in 1972 at age 61 and his shoes were
filled by Allen Bloom, who at the time was booking the circus. I had the pleasure of knowing him and his lovely wife, Dr. Mildred Fenner, president of the Natl Education Association in Washington who later
created an RBBB circus curriculum for schools.

I was hred by Cotton, was his assitant for 2-3 years until he passed away while the show was in Chicago. He was a great boss, smart as a whip, great teacher, most new promoters at the time would go out on their own after about 6 months. Cotton kept me with him, I was itching to get out on my own but Irvin said he wanted me to stay with Cotton.

I think this helped me be a better promoter. I saw alot and he taught me alot. He did all the big cities and he had a great ability to find good people in each town to work for the show in the promotion and advertisisng.
